Rooted deeply in the past, the well-established Hungarian educational institution, the University of Debrecen (UD) is one of the largest and most popular Hungarian universities that offer the highest number of academic programmes in the country. Carrying the prestigious title of 'research university' UD has achieved high status not only at the national but the international levels. At present UD has a student population of 30,000 studying at fourteen different faculties.

As a member of the hostel chain called College Hostels, Kossuth Lajos Dormitories are sited at the heart of the city's greenest zone, Great Forest Park (Nagyerdei Park) in the close vicinity of the Main Building of UD. Consisting of three separate buildings the complex functions as a hall of residence during the academic year (from September to June) providing more than 1,200 students with convenient, quality homes. We also offer short stay accommodation during university holidays for all those tourists who wish to book a student hostel falling into category C.

All together there are 25 single bedrooms, 372 two-bedded and 165 three-bedded rooms in Kossuth Lajos Dormitories. There are bathrooms attached to the bedrooms which are equipped with refrigerators, telephones, televisions and a satisfactory internet connection. Well-furnished shared kitchens are conveniently located on each floor for the benefit of both students and visiting tourists. In addition, the reception desks in each residential hall are 24/7 operations.

The dormitories enjoy closeness to the greenest area of the city where you can make the most out of your holiday either you are with friends or family. Within a short walking distance you can reach the rejuvenated Great Forest Park (Nagyerdei Park) and a large number of sport, leisure and cultural facilities:

• Aquaticum Debrecen (a complex that offers spa experience and also great fun for lovers of water slides, climbing walls, water choppers, etc.)
• Mist Theatre (a multimedia fountain whose fan-shaped water vapour can function as a movie screen)
• the Zoo
• Agora Science Centre (an institution in the Botanical Garden that hosts educational and science popularization activities)

If you wish to explore the city better, you should take Tram No. 1 which is a quick and easy way to reach the historic centre of Debrecen where there is much to see: the emblematic buildings of the Reformed Great Church, the Reformed College of Debrecen, and the exhibitions of Déri Museum and the Centre for Modern and Contemporary Arts (MODEM).
